Setting Page Size and Margins - Duration. Adobe Reader: Printing Problem. Hi, I am working with e-books documents. I am using a converter that converts.PDF's to.RTF's & then opens it in word after which I do corrections to the e-book & also fix formatting. I have just upgraded to office 2010 & in word when I try & work on one of these e-books may of the RIBBON SECTIONS are grayed out & won't give me access to change any formatting of the document they are as follows: 1. Drift n burn 360. PAGE SETUP all options are grayed out except for line numbers & hyphenation. ARRANGE all out except for Align 3. THEMES completely out in the file tab the permissions for the document state that anyone can OPEN, COPY and CHANGE any part of the document. So why are the above areas grayed out?? I need to change the margins of the document. Also 1 other question how do I set Word 2010 to ALWAYS open a document draft mode as it used to in office '97??? Hi, I am sorry I wasn't clearer this is a valid & activated copy of MS Office Prof. 2010 purchased through the Home Use Program of which my company is a member of. The problem is with THIS DOCUMENT ONLY, which was created out of the PDF-to-RTF converter software I have. In prior versions of word (97, XP, & 2007) with these type documents I was able to change the margins & layout without any problems its just in this version that suddenly that this is grayed out!! I have no problems with other documents or even with older documents from the converter that have already have had the margins changed in the older versions of word previously but still saved as.rtf format. This is the 1st new E-book document I have started on since upgrading to office 2010. Thanx for the help on opening in draft mode that works fine. Check the title bar of the Word window when that document is open. If the file name is followed by [Compatibility Mode] the document is limited to features that are available in Word 2003 and earlier; that's why Themes are grayed out. All.rtf files are always opened in Compatibility Mode. If you want to use Themes, go to the File tab and click the Convert button to promote the document to Word 2010 format, but then you'll be expected to save it as a.docx file -- if you save it as a.rtf file, it'll go back into Compatibility Mode. I don't know why the items in the Page Setup group are grayed out, but it happens here too -- that smells like a bug. Converting the document format makes them all available. Hi, I'm not really interested in the themes as I was only reporting that it was grayed out along with the page layout options such as margins as this is what I need to be able to change & I also need to keep the documents in.rtf mode & yes it comes up in compatibility mode. I ALWAYS work in that mode as the documents I work with have to be accessible from various versions of word! But the main reason I work the.rtf is that this is the MOST accessible type of e-book that can be read by almost ALL e-book readers as it is only 1 level above regular.txt if as you say you are getting the same problem there by you then this is definitely a BUG as I didn't have this problem in earlier versions of word when working on the same type of.rtf documents.
